It's finally here!! Confirmation will be this Wednesday evening, at St. Mary's Cathedral. The time is 7:00 P.M. Please have your children at the church between 6:00-6:15. We will meet as a group in the gathering space.  I have added information below that might be helpful to parents and sponsors.

Procession & Seating

Candidates will initially process in with the bishop.
Their sponsors will process in with them and then be seated directly behind them (one row of candidates, then one of sponsors, etc.).
They will process out after Mass in the same way.
We will be celebrating what is called a cluster Confirmation.  We will be joined by,  St. Bernards Parish from Crawfordsville, and St. Mary's Parish from Frankfort.

Presentation of Candidates:

(Candidates will be listed individually by parish on the program)

Rite of Confirmation:

During the rite, the candidates/sponsors will form two lines so the bishop may anoint "right to left."

The sponsor places his right hand on the right shoulder of the candidate prior to the anointing (& at no other time).

The candidate will give his own Confirmation name to the bishop.  PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD REMEMBERS THEIR SAINT NAME!

What a great weekend!  This was the most mellow group of kids that I have ever taken!  There are always a few kids that refuse to even try and get anything out of the weekend, and sadly, they can keep some of the others from enjoying it.  But most of the kids this year had an open mind, and even the ones that didn't really want to be there, did not take away from the experience of the ones that did want to be there.  My helper in class, Megan, got the flu at the last minute and was not able to go with us.  I was a little worried that I wouldn't have any help, but the kids didn't give me any problems at all.
The music was awesome, the speakers were great, the food was even pretty good!  I won't say much for the sleeping arrangements, but you can't expect miracles when you have to find a place for 900 kids to sleep.
The weekend can be very emotional.  Some kids have never experienced anything like it, and need to talk about it.  Most went to confession while they were there, and many 'met' Jesus for the first time, and were really able to get to know Him.
This Sunday we will be making posters to hang in the vestibule area of Memorial Center.  Please be sure and check them out when you bring your kids to SRE.  I am including a link here to the pictures in case you or your kids would want a copy of one of them.

February 13 2011

Parents of the Confirmation class,
Friday evening, February 18 through Sunday February 20, is the Destination Jesus retreat in Noblesville, at Saint Guerin High School.
We will be meeting at the Tippecanoe Mall, in the parking lot between the McDonald and Arby’s restaurants.
Registration begins at 4:00 on Friday afternoon and ends at 6:00.  We should leave between 4:15 and 4:30 from Lafayette. Please try to have your child there no later that 4:15.  There will be no dinner served on Friday evening, so your child should eat something before we leave.  Usually the kids grab something at Arby’s or McDonald’s before we head out.  They will be served a snack later in the evening.  They are also welcome to bring any snacks that they might like, along with them.
There will be NO cell phones allowed at the retreat.  If your child can’t possibly live without their phone, they may pack it in their luggage, but will only be allowed to use it at bedtime.  If they are found with a phone at the retreat, it will be taken from them until the end of the retreat.  They are very strict about this rule.  Ipod’s will be allowed only for use at bedtime.
Your child will need a sleeping bag.  If you do not have one, some of the kids have extra’s, so please let me know, before Friday, if you need to borrow one.
Each child will receive a free t-shirt at registration.  Your child may also want to bring some spending money with them.  They will have a bookstore set up selling CD’s, t-shirts, books, etc.
We should be arriving back in Lafayette between 2:00 and 2:30 on Sunday afternoon.  The kids will be able to call you on one of our cell phones to let you know that they have arrived back in town.  They will receive a small sack lunch that they can eat before we leave the school.
Each child will be given a large plastic bag for all of their belongings.  The bags will be large enough for sleeping bags and luggage.  Since the boys and girls will be staying at separate facilities, this makes it easier to transport their things.  Please encourage them to take the least amount of items that they can get by with.
Any medication that your child is on will be given to the nurse at the retreat.  If your child needs medicine, I will have a form for you to fill out giving them permission to distribute it.  Please fill it out, and put any medications into a zip lock bag, in its original container, with only enough medication for the weekend.  Let me know if you need one of these forms.
If there is a problem getting your child to the mall by 4:00, please let me know and we may be able to make other arrangements.
I am including my home phone, and my cell phone number in case of an emergency.  Please call my home phone anytime this week with any questions or concerns.  Please do not call during the retreat weekend, unless it is an emergency.
The retreat is being held at Saint Guerin High School in Noblesville.
I will be going down with the group for the weekend.  We do not have a male chaperone for the weekend, so the boys will group with St. Lawrence parish, at the sleeping quarters.  They will be under my supervision the rest of the weekend.
I also ask one more thing of you.  Please pray for your children this weekend. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to grow stronger in their faith, and your prayers will make a difference.
Please also stress to them that a weekend without electronic devices will not kill them.   ;)
I want to thank you for allowing them this chance to experience their Catholic faith, in a different way.  I hope that they will keep an open mind and let the Holy Spirit work in them to bring them closer to our God and his Son.
God Bless, and please don’t hesitate to call with any questions or concerns.
Yvonne Keech

The phone numbers you need to know:

Yvonne Keech (home)                                  474-1990
Yvonne Keech (cell)                                     479-2745

(P.S.  Many kids come back from this retreat a different person.  It is a powerful weekend, a lot of kids, really finding their faith for the first time.  Please be patient with them, it is very hard to come back from one of these retreats to an environment that has not changed, and try to fit back in when they feel so different.
I also ask that you thank Father Dominic for this weekend that your children will be experiencing.  No other parish that I know of pays most of the fee for their kids as Father Dominic has done.)
